Can you surf the internet on a Global Kindle with a free wi fi spot?
I’m pretty sure my husband got me a Kindle for Christmas and I know it comes with 3G wireless network for downloading the actual books but can you also surf the web? It seems the itouch lets you surf the web and you can get a kindle app for it. The 8G is also cheaper than the Kindle. I really want to be able to have inernet access and am wondering which is the better buy?
I live in Germany and checked the 3G map. I think it should be ok,
No, the Kindle does not have wi-fi. However, the good thing is that it comes with free international 3G wireless, so you can surf the internet anywhere under the wireless coverage. The ipod touch, on the other hand, only have wi-fi but no 3G or other wireless access. But the iPod Touch has a much better browser compared to the Kindle. You should expect the Kindle only to be used to access text-heavy websites like Google, Wikipedia, Gmail, etc., but don’t expect it to be used for websites like Facebook. For me, I think the free internet browser is a great additional feature already, consider the main function for the Kindle is convenience of reading books.
I love my Kindle 2 very much. I remember I read this review when I decided to get it:

If you plan to read quite often, don’t use iTouch because it has backlight and it will hurt our eyes if you read for long hours. The Kindle is designed for reading, its eInk screen works very well and I don’t feel tired even reading for long hours. It is much better to ur eyes as it just like reading normal books.
Hope it helps
