I recently read the autobiography of Steve Jobs and I liked reading it. I came out feeling great about myself and impressed. But this is not always so when I read autobiographies. A number of them I don't even go past the first few chapters. Which makes me think; why did I like this one? What makes it a good read? Is it the subject or the writer? Well I feel it's the writer; a writer is sort of a painter he makes a picture look pretty with his skills and can make someone look equally bad if he is not skillfull. So if it is about the writer; then what makes a biography writer a good writer? As a Dutch writer specialized in biografie schrijven, I will try and give you some pointers!

The most vital facet of a biography is the selection of the subject. The subject should be such that folk can relate to it, what were the subjects ' feats, what sort of life did the individual lead, did the subject manage to touch other individual's life?

The timing of the biography is during the life time of subject, immediately after his/her death or perhaps later on.

The point of the biography is it to introduce the person to the world, to celebrate the subjects ' good deeds or to celebrate the topic and re-light the memory.

It also relies on how well and accurately the writer has investigated the individual and brought out fascinating stories of which people have not read in any other media until now. This will keep the readers interested.

It's also vital that the readers are made to think that they are reading a book instead of a chapter from a history book hence weaving a story with facts and humor is crucial.

At the end it is important to have the reader feel some emotions at the time of closing the book, the feelings would be what the writer wanted to achieve, the object of writing the book? Inspiration, love and a feeling of knowing the individual.
